The American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) recognizes 49 breeds of rabbits and 13 breeds of cavies at present. Within this count are diverse varieties as to coat and eye color variation which hobbyist can choose from. Mini Rex Rabbits

The Mini Rex is among the most popular breeds of domesticated pets in the US. It was first recognized by ARBA in 1998. This breed is characterized by its plush and velvety fur coat. It has soft shiny fur and beautiful hair that protrudes outward. The fur is dense, smooth, and of fine silky texture. The Mini Rex is playful and makes good pets for children. They have a sweet temperament, friendly, and fun-loving. A fully grown adult weighs from 3.5 to 4.5 lbs and has a life span of 10 years depending on care and diet. The breed in the US comes in many colors – black, blue, chestnut, chocolate, lilac, lynx, opal, otter, sable, tortoise and white. The dominant characteristic of this breed is its formal attire. It has a striking appearance and is always a crowd-drawer.

Dutch Rabbit

This is a small compact breed that is said to have originated from Holland in the early 1900s. It has powerful back legs and fur that is always white in color. They are known to have been domesticated since the turn of the century and have remained popular as pets until today. This breed is the easy favorite of adults and children over 10 years old. Younger children are well advised to have their parents around while handling the pet. This breed is extremely sociable and good-natured. However, they can be too energetic and may require a lot of attention since they get bored easily.

Dwarf Hotot Rabbit

The Dwarf Hotot Rabbit is a breed that will catch your fancy due to its distinct appearance. They have an all white fur but with a thin black band of fur around their eyes. These features are bound to catch the attention of the onlookers. The Dwarf Hotot are small and can easily be held in one’s hand. They are affectionate, playful and adorable which makes them as perfect pets for children and grown-ups alike. Having this breed as a pet is practical since they require a smaller space than ordinary rabbits. Each individual rabbit has different characteristics. Some would like to be petted and held, while others would just like to hop on their owner’s lap. This breed is affectionate and would most likely show affection to whoever is handling them.

Mini Lops Rabbit

Mini lops are good-natured rabbits as compared to other breeds. This little adorable fluff is a great present for young children as they are people-friendly and adorable. If you are patient, they can do a lot of tricks through the used of a clicker. The breed comes in many colors: blue, black, brown, chinchilla, brown, fawn, and many others. The average weight is 1.6kg. They have a compact body and with a soft dense coat. They have powerful shoulders and hind legs. The ears are covered with fur and are rounded at the ends.
