Tarlac celebrates 139th Araw ng Lalawigan

TARLAC PROVINCE will commemorate on May 28, its 139th foundation anniversary with a week-long celebration that will feature among others, the different products and produce of Tarlac via a trade fair, sports fest, the first kuran tayab festival and the coronation of the Mutya ng Tarlac.
The celebration with a theme “Ganda at Galing…Natural Tarlak” will kick-off on May 20, Sunday, with the opening of the Airsoft competition at the San Isidro airsoft game site.
May 21, the Asenso sa Negosyo Tarlac, a franchising fair in cooperation with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Tarlac chapter and the opening of extreme adventures Zip-line and wall climbing at the Maria Christina Park will commence.
A holy mass at the Bulwagan ng mga Gubernador to be celebrated by Tarlac Bishop Florentino Cinense will highlight day two on May 23 along with an auto show, dokumentaryo, sports fest, a trade fair dubbed anihan sa Tarlac, kuran design and art painting contest and the tagisan ng galing ng Tarlaqueno.
On May 24, a fun run will kick-off day four and will feature the opening of the international museum day workshop, the fourth football festival titled futbol ng masa Governor’s cup, the launching of the food website and the mutya ng lalawigan coronation night aptly named ‘kuran queen festival’.
A Jobs Fair on May 25 along with a grand parade hailed as parada kultura and the natural na pistang Tarlac, a variety show that will feature personalities in the movie world will be the activities.
On May 26, a mobile passporting at the Metro Town Mall, the first provincial motocross competition and a local band show will highlight day six.
A benefit concert for the Monasterio de Tarlac to be held at the Diwa ng Tarlak will highlight day the penultimate day of the celebration.
On the day of the foundation anniversary, the province will likewise commemorate the National Flag Day and will feature a dog fun show and a Mobile Professional Regulation Commission [PRC] processing for all professionals at the SM City Tarlac.
This year’s anniversary marks the 13th time that the province of Tarlac will celebrate its foundation anniversary.
In 1998, upon the assumption to office of the late Governor and Congressman Jose “Aping” Yap, he immediately commissioned a team to research on the date of the establishment of Tarlac into a province. The team, composed of Tarlac historians, discovered that on May 28, 1872, Tarlac was formally declared as a province.
The following year, through Presidential Proclamation Number 109 signed by then President Joseph Ejercito Estrada, May 28 was declared a special non-working holiday in the entire province of Tarlac in commemoration of its founding anniversary.
Tarlac has produced some of the most prominent personalities in the country such as former Senator and martyred hero Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino, former Ambassador Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco Jr., General Francisco Macabulos, the first United Nations Secretary General Carlos P. Romulo, Leonor “Maria Clara” Rivera, President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, to name just a few.
“Tarlac is a historic province and the only fitting tribute we can offer is through the commemoration of its founding anniversary,” Governor Victor Yap said.
